Thatcher's Rest Self Catering Cottage, 'Peace, Tranquillity and Good Fishing'
is situated on a farm which lies within the Biggarsberg area of Northern KZN.
Thatchers' Rest is situated appro. 8kms off the N11 between Ladysmith and
Newcastle, approx 350kms from Johannesburg and approx.300kms from Durban.
This delightful, superbly equipped cottage is set on stilts within a dam and
consists of 3 bedrooms (2 main en-suite) and 1 pvte. There is a cozy lounge with
a fireplace for those chilly winters evenings (or days) an open plan kitchen (so
that the cooks in the kitchen don't miss out on any of the fun) and a lovely
undercover verandah enclosed with blinds.
The views and surrounding area are a picture of true peace and tranquillity.
This is enhanced by the fact that the cottage is totally secluded and exclusive.
The cottage is equipped with a gas stove and fridge. Lights and power points are
powered by a romote controlled generator.
To add to all of the above wonderful features and attributes, the dam on which
the cottage is situated, offers great bass and trout fishing opportunities.
There are a total of 6 stocked dams (2 of which have trout & bass) on the farm,
all of which are available for guests staying in the cottage.
No day visitors are allowed on the cottage dam when it is occupied, again
ensuring exclusivity.
There is a bass boat available and rubber crafts with sneeker motors are
allowed.
Other activities available on the farm include walking, and birdwatching.
Horse riding is available on a farm within very close proximity.
The famous Battlefields of Rorke's Drift, Isandlwana and Blood River are all
within an approx. 1 1/2hours drive. Guided tours to any of the Battlefields can
be organized on guests' behalf.
The beautiful, restored Maria Ratchitz Mission church and aids centre are a mere
16kms away. Visitors are welcome to attend church services or simply wonder
around the peaceful an beautifully kept gardens.
Fort Mistake, hang gliding launch site, is within very close proximity.
Nambiti Conservancy, home of the BIG 5, to which daily game tours (conditions
apply) can be organized, is only 30kms away.
