Protea Wilds Retreat offers safe, peaceful self catering accommodation with stunning views, conveniently situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, close enough to enjoy all the activities in and around the area. Peace and tranquillity like you've never experienced before.  Abundant with bird life, protea and fynbos.

Safety and security
You can be assured of great safety and security, as there are virtually no people/car/bike traffic passing through, maybe the occasional cyclist, 270 hectares of open spaces to breathe.

Go on one of our walks (down to the Bitou River or easy walks on the farm). Book a silver service, gourmet picnic at our special, purposely built, romantic picnic area with stunning views. Or ask the big question...

Relax next to the pool with only the sounds of silence (or nature) around you. All accommodation has pool facilities.

Bring your mountain bike and explore the farm as well as the mountain bike trails through the Knysna forest a few kilometres away.

Forest horse rides and quad bike rides available on a neighbouring farm. See another neighbour milking hundreds of cows a day (buy your milk there if you want) or book a sumptuous cheese and local wine lunch with our wine making neighbour.

Pick your own bunch of Protea and Fynbos. Order a picnic basket and enjoy at your leisure.

Where are we / Road conditions.

I confirm that we are about 22 kms from Knysna and Plett, about 25 mins drive from both. 13kms on the N2 from either side, then about 9 kms inland (good gravel). Suited to normal sedan motors.

Accommodation options:
The quaint and private Protea Cottage sleeps 4 (2 bedr, 2 bathr), DSTV (certain channels), fireplace and private lapa in garden with bbq area, shaded seating, boma fire pit and a small above ground splash pool. Safe shaded parking.

The Bitou Valley House sleeps 6 (3 bedr, 2 bathr). Stunning location, secluded, completely private, covered deck with seating and breathtaking views. Braai area with shaded seating, private pool (views) and private shower with a view (hot and cold water). DSTV (certain channels), fireplace, fully equipped with all modern facilities. Pet friendly by arrangement.

Oyster (first), Ostrich, Stokkiesdraai, Elephant, Choo-Tjoe and Forest (last) studio s/c units, all at one location. These units can sleep 2 adults. The units have kitchen facilities inside the units or a small separate kitchen. All units have a separate bathroom with shower and toilet. All the units have a dining table and two chairs, a bathroom basin, bed/s, closet/hanging space inside. All units have a covered, screened-off patio, leading to an open deck with lovely views over the garden and mountains. The patios can open up in-between the units, should 2 or more couples book and want to have easy access to one another. Coffee/tea and amenities provided on arrival. Some units have twin beds, some have double beds and Forest has a queen bed (this units has sliding doors to the patio and a private bbq area next to it). Safe, shaded parking.

The Fynbosskerm is about 10 - 30 metres in front and to the side of the units. It has a large, fully equipped kitchen, very spacious dining/breakfast room and lounge with a fireplace and DSTV (most popular channels). It leads onto a pool deck with solar heated pool. Large communal or private bbq's available. Breathtaking views from all locations. These facilities can be used by groups exclusively (s/c or with breakfast that we serve) or individuals can also have breakfast here if booked extra.

Self-catering, linen, towels and firewood supplied, serviced daily during high season, except 25 Dec, 1 Jan and Sundays. Lower seasons serviced during the week (service can be arranged over weekends at an additional rate).
